Vasco and Boulevard will be investigated by Bermuda Football Association.

Police were called to the ground to restore order and prevent an escalation of fighting after players from both sides and some fans traded punches at the final whistle.

Noting that local soccer hadn't been affected by any serious incident in more than a year, BFA president Neville Tyrrell said yesterday his association were anxiously awaiting referee Leroy Wilson's report.

"I am privy to knowing about it after seeing it in the morning paper. I would imagine that the referee will put in his usual report, otherwise there is no more that I can say about it right now,'' said Tyrrell.

"I would like to think that the violence had nothing to do with the game. The report in the newspaper said that it happened at the end of the match, but whatever the time or the reasons, we know that anything can happen when there are large groups of people circulating after an event.

"I would like to think that it might not even be football related. But the fact remains that we are always concerned about officials, players and fans being at risk in situations like this.

"We were relieved to learn that nobody was actually hurt. It's sad to see something like this happen because really this has been one of our best seasons in that regard.'' The matter will now be placed on a busy BFA agenda which also includes ongoing discussions with the future status of technical director Clyde Best who has been told that his contract will not be renewed at the end of March -- at least under the current conditions.

Tyrrell said last week that while the BFA intended to work towards extending Best's involvement, the position of technical director would no longer be retained.

"I would like to clarify what I think is a misconception in the eyes of the public,'' said Tyrrell yesterday. "They have been thinking that Mr. Best will be retained as a technical director but that is not the case.

"His contract as technical director ends on the 31st of March and we are considering a possible attachment because of our World Cup commitments. That has yet to be worked out.'' It remains to be seen what happens after the World Cup campaign, whether Best will be offered the title of national coach or be retained in another coaching capacity.
