Rose was eliminated in the first round by eventual tournament winner Gary Waite of Canada 15-8, 15-10, 15-12, but was quite pleased with his performance.

"I was really happy with the way things went, especially being it was my first professional game since last summer,'' said Rose.

"It was a case of my playing here in Bermuda with not much competition and I found that the longer I was on the court, the better it got.'' Waite, who is expected on the Island for the Heinz Bermuda Open in April, went on to win the championship without dropping a set.
