today at the Bermuda College on the importance of black history in schools.

Dr. Hilliard was invited by the Commission for Unity and Racial Equality to give two lectures to the groups in the College's North Hall Lecture Theatre.

A Texan, Dr. Hilliard is the Fuller E. Gallaway professor of Urban Education at Georgia State University and is a graduate of the University of Denver.

He is an educational psychologist, and historian, and has written and lectured on testing, ancient African history, and teaching strategies.

Dr. Hilliard will lecture students on the role of black people in world history at 12.30 p.m.

Educators can hear him speak on their responsibility in teaching black peoples' contributions in schools at 4.30.

Dr. Hilliard said he intended to show students that there was much to learn about black history and he could only scratch the surface in an hour and a half long lecture.

He added: "They need to know and learn European history and all that is important in African history. There are a lot of gaps in what we know ourselves.'' CONFERENCE CON
