November 20, when the new $20-million wing was officially and formally opened.

The ceremony began at 2:30 in the afternoon with a welcome from Mrs. Sheila Manderson, Executive Director.

In attendance was the Governor, Mrs. Masefield, Health Minister Nelson Bascome, MP, Hospital Board Members, Mrs. Vivienne Gardner, Bishop Ewan Ratteray, Rev. Conway Simmons, about 200 dignitaries and invited guests.

The Governor, Thorold Masefield gave a brief speech followed by Mrs. Gardner, sculptor, who gave her explanation of "Spark of Life''.

Chairman of the Hospital's Board, Clement E.F. Talbot gave a speech which was followed by the raising of the flags, and a tree was planted.

Rev. Conway Simmons blessed the new wing followed by the ribbon cutting with Mr. Bascome.

Closing remarks were made by Mrs. Manderson. She announced that there would be screenings of the new hospital video, the brainchild of Sen. Alfred Oughton whose vision and perserverence made it a reality.
