Golfers fail in World Cup bid

World Cup on the weekend when they fired final rounds of 76 and 79 respectively to finish outside of the top five at the Runaway Bay Golf Club in Jamaica.

Pearman, who left immediately after the tournament and arrived back in Bermuda yesterday, was not certain of the pair's final placing but estimated they finished just outside the top 10. Only the leading five qualified.

They were fifth after the first of three rounds on Thursday in what turned out to be their best round, shooting a combined two under par to put themselves in early contention.

After Friday's second day which saw Bean shoot 75 and Pearman 76, the pair were six shots out of fifth place among the 23 countries and went into the final round on Saturday needing to card under par to have any chance of qualifying for the World Cup in Malaysia in November.

"We needed something like three-under each,'' said Pearman. "The greens were a little bumpy, which didn't help me any because I hadn't been putting well. I had a rough time down there.''
