Workshops to begin
workshops, beginning this month.
The workshops -- to be held at Admiralty House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. January 18, 25 and February 1, 8, 15, and 22 -- will focus on technique, composition, use of materials and demonstrations by well-known Bermudian artists.
Masterworks spokesperson Elise Outerbridge said the Foundation's summer series was highly successful.
"The general feeling was that these classes gave students, who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to be so intensively exposed to the visual arts, an alternative outlet for expression in the form of hands-on knowledge of techniques in water colour, oils, collage, and clay,'' she said.
"This knowledge bolstered the self-esteem of the students as they became more confident of their handling of the material.'' Masterworks expected to expand the winter programme, Mrs. Outerbridge added.
The first series will be an in-depth exploration of four watercolour artists who will demonstrate their mastery of the media; qualified volunteer art teachers will conduct academic technical classes in the application of the media; and students will be encouraged to apply the skills they developed in these works toward their individual interpretation and to enhance their creativity.
"We are hoping to follow this study of watercolours with similar programmes featuring oils, acrylics, pottery, etc.,'' Mrs. Outerbridge said. "Even if you're an adult, we welcome you to be a kid again.'' The workshops, including materials, cost $150 per student. For further information contact Elise Outerbridge on 295-5580 or fax 292-3653.
