After two years of planning and fundraising, the Sexual Assault Response Team has announced plans to officially open its facility on Thursday on the fourth floor of the hospital.

It has been specifically designed with state-of-the-art examination equipment as well as a private area for the comfort of the victim and a separate area for waiting family members.

The Sexual Assault Response Team has been trained to provide compassionate care and collect forensic evidence. Members will also provide psychological intervention and comprehensive follow-up.

The project -- which was made possible with funds from the Bank of Bermuda Centennial Trust, the Bermuda Junior Service League, and other corporate and private donors -- came about through a collaboration of Government agencies, the medical profession, health organisations, community services, the Bermuda Hospitals Board and concerned citizens.
