Olympics an eye-opener for younger athletes
athletes, but its younger ones as well.
Eighteen-year-old triple jumper Donte Hunt represented Bermuda in the Olympic Youth Camp in Atlanta along with triathlete Kris Hedges.
"The camp was connected to the Olympics,'' Hunt explained yesterday. "We went to many Olympic venues and activities.'' The youth camp had 500 representatives from 197 countries, taking part in both indoor and outdoor activities as well as fine arts.
"The idea was to get people familiar with all the sports of different countries,'' explained Hunt. "It also brought all the youth from the different countries of the world together.'' The participants were chosen based on their athletic, academic, extracurricular and community accomplishments.
Hunt, who recently returned from the two-and-a-half-week camp, will leave for North Carolina State University on Thursday where he will begin his studies of computer science.
