Exchange year ends with active trading
a flurry of trading in a wide range of stocks.
As had been the case for much of the year, trading was most active in bank shares, with Bank of Bermuda 9% preference shares gaining 25 cents to close at $107.50 on volume of 220 units, while the bank's ordinary shares were unchanged at $20.25 on volume of 2925.
Bank of Butterfield shares held to their high for the year of $34.875 on volume of 1,963 while Commercial Bank shares also held at $12.
The insurance sector was also active with Argus holding at $11.50 on volume of 500 and BF&M 9% preference shares unchanged at $10 on volume of 325.
Bermuda Sun shares traded for the second time in a week after being dormant for more than two years., with 250 shares changing hands for $5 while Bermuda Broadcasting Company shares dropped 75 cents to close at $5.25. The BBC shares had reached their $6 high on December 29.
Belco, which declared a 25 cent divided, was unchanged at $20 on volume of 600 shares.
Volume during the short week was 7,911 shares worth $164,937.25 while bond volume was 23,575 worth $188,512.25.
