Missiles thrown at Police
afternoon when they attempted to arrest a man under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
The melee erupted after narcotics and uniformed Police officers tried to search a 27-year-old man as a result of information received.
The man brushed away one Police officer and then allegedly lunged at him with both hands. A struggle ensued and the suspect kicked the officer in the face and punched another officer in the head. The suspect suffered bruises to his face.
By this time a large crowd had gathered, with some throwing objects at the Police. The suspect was eventually restrained, cuffed, and placed in a Police car where he continued to violently resist arrest.
One officer was conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital to be treated for severe swelling to the left side of his face. Police investigations are continuing.
