Teenagers get job advice
where they could find jobs to help pay their fines.
Walde Trott, 18, of Tribe Road Number Five, Paget, failed to show for his first court appearance on January 5 after being charged with not having a licence.
Mr. King fined him $100 and asked if he could pay. Trott said no as he did not have a job and already had more than $1,000 in outstanding fines.
"Do you want me to tell you where to get a job?'' asked Mr. King.
He motioned for Trott to approach the bench so that he could tell him where to get a job and also advised him not to tell anyone else about the job.
Mr. King said: "As soon as you get that first $100, you come straight to the court, don't go to the bank because you know what their lines can be like.
"You pay that $100 and leave me a note saying `I did it'.'' He then gave Trott until April 26 to pay his fine.
Later in the session, Trott's brother Igziabeher Trott pleaded guilty to riding an unlicensed bike, not having a licence, not having insurance and speeding at 64 kph. He was fined $250, $100, $1,000 and $250 respectively.
Igziabeher Trott also asked for time to pay as he did not have a job either.
Mr. King told him to ask his brother where to get a job, and gave him until April 28 to pay the first two fines totalling $350; until May 31 for the speeding fine; and until September 30 to pay the no insurance fine or serve 28 days, 14 days, 28 days and 4 months respectively.
