Troy Anderson, 30, was stopped on Euclid Avenue on March 23 by Police who noticed he had no expiry sticker in his window, Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.

Checks revealed he was off the road, so officers impounded the car. They discovered a set of karate sticks behind the seat.

"I use them for training,'' Anderson told the officers. "I left them in the car because everyone needs protection these days.'' Anderson, of Verdmont Road, Smith's Parish, admitted he was caught six days before he was due to go back on the road. He got the dates mixed up, he said.

He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, not having third party insurance, driving an unlicensed car and possessing a prohibited weapon, and was fined $800. He was also disqualified for a year.
