the Motion to Adjourn in the Senate yesterday.

Sen. Jerome Dill (UBP), who was pictured on the poster shaking hands with Environment Minister the Hon. Ann Cartwright DeCouto, said he was "more than just a little offended and saddened.'' He said he was grateful the Premier and other UBP members had spoken out against the poster and that a Police investigation had begun. "There is no doubt the poster incited racial hatred,'' he said.

And he said there was no question that Police should investigate. He called on PLP Senators to clearly state what they thought of the poster and whether they agreed with a fellow MP that the Police should not get involved.

Opposition Leader, Sen. Alex Scott said the poster showed racism was still alive here.

He said the Police decision to investigate and prosecute was taking the focus off the real issue: racism.

"Someone was moved to author this poster,'' he said. "How many feel the same way, I don't know. Looking to the Police for a solution is simplistic.'' Government Leader, Sen. Mike Winfield also called on PLP senators to say whether they supported the stance taken by Mr. Julian Hall MP that there should not be an investigation.

Sen. Joe Johnson (Ind.) said he was "dismayed and disturbed'' by the poster.

"It went beyond the bounds of decency,'' he said. "The investigation must go on.'' Sen. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) said he too had been the subject of racist remarks and suggested that if newly appointed Sen. Dill wanted to "stay in this game of politics'' he should "develop thicker shoulders.'' With one Opposition Senator left to speak, Sen. Maxwell Burgess (UBP) repeated the call for the PLP to make its position clear on the poster and Police investigation.

However, Sen. Ira Philip said: "I am not prepared to allow the UBP to get political capital in trying to draw us into a dispute that's not our doing.''
