Airport arrivlas expanded
an effort to ease congestion.
And the construction work will be completed within two weeks, just in time for the tourist season, which is expected to be busy with arrivals up 23 percent, with 60,030 people visiting so far this year.
Airport general manager Mr. Larry Lachappelle said the work started in early March.
The sidewalk at the arrival area has been expanded by nine feet, and now encompasses some 600 square feet.
There is now a new arrangement for cars picking up passengers.
Cars will now have to park parallel to the curb because the parking bays have been moved to make room for the wider curb.
About 50 self-service luggage carts will be made available and a rail has been built down the middle of the pavement to allow persons using the carts to have an obstacle free path.
Plans are also underway to construct a hoop rail to prevent the carts rolling off the curb and damaging taxi's and limosines parked nearby.
There will also be three cart retrievers on duty each day between May and October.
