Cathy Page, 31, of California, pleaded guilty to possesing cannabis, drug equipment and prescription pills which she did not carry a prescription for.
Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy told the court that on May 11, Page arrived at the Civil Air Terminal.
"While she was being searched customs officers found 1.81 grammes of cannabis, a pipe and four Hydrocodone tablets in her cosmetic bag,'' Insp.
Duffy said.
He added that the pills can also be a drug if they are abused.
The Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons fined Page $180 for possessing cannabis, $100 for the pipe and $200 for the Hydrocodone pills.
DRIVER FINED $400 CTS A 29-year-old Pembroke man was fined $400 in Magistrates' Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by alcohol.
Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy told the court that on May 7, just before midnight, Luis M. Sousa of Serpentine Road was seen by Police driving erratically on Burnaby Street, Front Street and Crow lane.
"They watched as Sousa was weaving between lanes and drifting to the centre of the road overtaking cars,'' Insp. Duffy said.
"Officers stopped him and noticed that his eyes were glazed, and he was unsteady on his feet.'' A breathalyser test showed that Sousa had 199 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Magistrate the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons fined him $400 and disqualified him from all vehicles for 12 months.
ARRIVALS FALL TOU Weekly tourist arrivals fell slightly last week compared to the same week last year.
But overall figures for arrivals by sea and air have risen compared to 1994.
Air arrivals were 12,235, a decrease of 271 on the same week in 1994, but cruise ship arrivals were slightly up. In fact the cruise ships were all close to total occupancy this week. The total numbers of visitors so far this year are 159,409 a 4.8 percent increase on the same period in 1994.
FINED FOR PIPE CTS US citizen Kevin Francis Cogne was fined $150 when he pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court on Monday to illegal possession of a pipe used to smoke cannabis.
Cogne arrived from Boston last Wednesday to spend a week with his girlfriend, a Bermuda resident. He was stopped and searched by Customs officers at the Airport who discovered the pipe.
Tests confirmed that the pipe showed traces of cannabis and cannabis resin.
BRAWL BROKEN UP CRM Police were called in to break up a brawl at the carpark of the Hamilton Parish Workmen's Club early on Monday morning.
About 20 men and women had gathered around three men who were fighting when the Police arrived. They eventually brought the fight under control, but not before a 32-year-old Hamilton Parish man suffered a cut to the back of the head. He was treated at hospital and released.
No-one has been arrested for the assault.
AUSTRALIAN FINED CTS An Australian visitor pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis in Magistrates' Court on Monday.
William Michaelson, who is staying with friends on the Island, was detained by Customs officers at the Civil Air Terminal on May 19.
The drug was found at the bottom of a black bag which Michaelson claimed he had borrowed. He was reported as saying: "It's not mine. It's not my bag.
Michaelson pleaded guilty to possession of an illegal substance and was fined $100 by Magistrate the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons. He had no previous convictions.
