Saltus won the primary schools' nine-a-side cricket final this week when they beat West End at Shelly Bay. Scores: West End 67, Saltus 68-5.
David Smith, who opened the batting and was undefeated on 42 when victory was reached, led the champions. Three bowlers featured prominently: Thomas Edwards returned three for five, Henry Talbot three for 13 and Lyn Alexander two for 18.
Shayne Morrisey led West End in scoring with 25 not out while Aquino Grant took two for 10. The primary schools' double wicket final saw St. George's Prep taking honours, thanks to Mishael Paynter and Dimitrie Butterfield. They were undefeated in round robin play with Butterfield in particularly good form, deftly late cutting and playing fierce shots on the on side.
Dellwood were runners-up with a 2-1 record. Dellwood's team consisted of Oren Smith and Damio Crockwell. Aaron Simmons and Antoine Brangman teamed up for Elliott.
SAILING SLG Bermuda's Christian Luthi won the Marblehead Olympic Class Regatta in the Laser class last weekend, edging outing Jeff Nelson of the US by one point.
Sailing in winds ranging between 8-18 knots, Luthi had a three-day series of 3,3,2,1,2,2,3. He will travel to the US Nationals later this month and then to the Miami Olympic Class Regatta in January with the national squad.
Luthi is in good company: Bermuda's Malcolm Smith, Peter Bromby and Blythe Walker previously won the Marblehead regatta. The Olympic Class Regattas are ranking races for the US and Canadian sailing teams and are often the most competitive in North America.
