Talks to resume in docks battle

Docks.

The Portworkers Division of the Bermuda Industrial Union and Stevedoring Services management are due to meet today, and it is understood they are hoping a settlement can be thrashed out.

The dispute surrounds overtime payments for call-outs to service cargo ships.

An overtime ban imposed by the 60 staff was lifted late last week but workers have still been refusing to carry out overtime on an individual basis.

Unloading of two cargo ships has continued but only up until normal hours finish at 4.30 p.m.

Both sides met yesterday with Home Affairs Minister Maxwell Burgess and he confirmed he had asked them to meet today to "search for some common ground between them''.
