In a written press release yesterday Ms Smith spoke out for the first time about the recent aborted trial of accused murderer Justis Smith.

Mr. Smith was released last week after a Supreme Court judge ruled the prosecution failed to prove his involvement in the murder and sexual assault of 17-year-old Canadian visitor Rebecca Middleton in 1996.

But the trial's outcome sparked a backlash of negative reactions from supporters of the Middleton family in Canada.
