Woman seeks rescue hero
through Horseshoe Bay last Sunday is seeking "the man with the blue board''.
He helped save the lives of some of the men in a group of 10 Canadian visitors, including her two daughters, who had gone swimming that day and been dragged out to sea by an unusually strong undertow known as a "rip current''.
Mrs. June Lajeunesse said the man swam out to the group with a blue surfboard in rough conditions before lifeguards arrived on the scene.
"I want to thank him personally and try and obtain some sort of recognition for his efforts,'' she said. "He can contact me at 295-5305.'' She has already submitted the names of the three lifeguards, Mr. Jamie Pedro, Mr. Glen Davies and Mr. Richard Forehead, and Canadian Mr. Karl Fraser to Police in hopes of getting them official recognition.
"If it had not been for them and the man with the blue board they all would have drowned out there,'' she said.
