Grounded cruise ship expected to be ready for October 28 sailing
A cruise ship which ran aground last month in Quebec's St. Lawrence Seaway is expected to be ready for its scheduled cruise from Boston to Bermuda later this month.
Cruises scheduled for October 8 and 18 were cancelled so that repairs could be made to the Norwegian Sky after it was grounded on September 24, approximately 60 miles south of Baie-Comeau, Quebec.
But the 64 Bermudians booked on board for the vessel's October 28 sailing from Boston can rest assured that the departure will take place as planned.
Meyer Agencies marketing manager Heather Henneberger said: "The ship is currently in dry dock, but Norwegian Cruise Line have said they were confident repairs will be finished in time.'' After berthing at King's Wharf, Dockyard for two more days the vessel is then due to take 152 residents on a 15-day cruise around the Caribbean, touring islands including Jamaica, St. Thomas and Aruba before finishing up in Miami.
She explained why it was that the virtually brand new ship was making this special visit to the Island.
"The ship just set sail this summer and I was able to negotiate with NCL so that passengers would be able to embark in Bermuda,'' Ms Henneberger said.
"Normally anyone doing this would only be able to go to New York or Boston.
The attraction of this cruise is that it will go on to make a two-week cruise around the Caribbean.''
