With the motto, "Caring Where it Counts'', they offer customers three bagging options which will help them do their part in protecting the earth.

"We are concerned about our environment and so support the re-use of paper and plastic grocery bags. Adopting a re-use policy reduces waste disposal problems and also saves the earth's resources,'' it says on the back of their brown paper bags.

One of the three choices Harrington Hundreds' customers have are plastic bags which are: Recyclable and safe in landfills; Will degrade in the sunlight (biodegradeable); Will not contaminate ground water; and Are non-toxic when incinerated.

Customers can also purchase a smart and stylish white and red canvas bag from cashiers to use every time they shop at Harrington Hundreds or need a carry-all bag.

The bags -- especially popular among visitors to the Island -- are strong, long-wearing and washable.

"Use our cloth bag and help save the earth's trees,'' advertises Harrington Hundreds.

Customers who return enough brown paper bags to the store can get money back by way of the store's Bring-Um-Back Card! You get a "thrupence'' for each large brown paper bag you bring back to package your groceries in.

Just pick up a Bring-Um-Back Card at the store and present it to the cashier to be stamped once for each bag used.

When your card is fully stamped, turn it in and you'll get back a dollar? In addition, the Keep Bermuda Beautiful anti-litter group will also receive ten cents for each Bring-Um-Back Card redeemed.

Mr. Anthony Aguiar says a personal desire to do his part to help protect the environment led him to implement such "green'' policies as recyclable grocery bags.

But he notes, "My (four) children also teach me a lot about saving the environment and saving the earth''.

And portraying an environmentally-friendly image certainly does not hurt business in this day and age, he adds.
