Read around the world!
month, aimed at making children more aware of cultural diversity.
The Read-Around-The-World programme will explore other countries through print media like novels, non-fiction books and newspapers each month.
Once a book has been read, the title and authors are recorded in a passport, issued from one of the programme partners, along with reader's brief response.
Students who "visit'' all the continents by the end of the school year will be eligible for prizes provided by the Children's Bookshop on Bermudiana Road.
The first country to be visited will be Sierra Leone this Saturday at 2 p.m.
at the Youth Library.
And during the month, activities can be planned to celebrate aspects of each country's culture, such as inviting a guest speaker to visit the school, or learning dance, songs and crafts from the country and tasting its cuisine.
Passports will be issued from the Youth Library, the Bermuda National Library or the Royal Gazette office on Par-La-Ville Street.
For further information, interested parties can contact the Jennifer Ingham, Newspaper In Education coordinator at 295-5881 or Marla Smith, Head Librarian, The Youth Library 295-0487.
