Winter revamp for reservoir
can move in to give it a winter revamp.
The one-million gallon Fort Prospect reservoir was built around the turn of the century and has undergone repairs in different parts over the years.
Now it is to have one major refit to correct porous areas so it is ready for the summer season.
The reservoir, which was built in an old moat, is about 100ft long and 22ft deep and is being emptied before workmen move in.
Currently about four feet of water is left and it should be empty by the New Year. The work is going out for tender and could take weeks to complete.
The reservoir is Government's main potable water distribution centre and also supplies some of the private water trucks. Two other reservoirs are still in use and the water supplies will not be affected.
Government's principal civic engineer Trevor Gilchrist said the work included taking out and replacing material used for repairs in the past as well as waterproofing the slightly porous walls and floors.
