He is married with a two-year-old son and a baby daughter due in January. He contested the seat for the UBP in 2007 but lost to the PLP’s Ashfield DeVent.“It’s difficult to determine how I’m going to do this time,” admitted Mr Darrell, a 45-year-old telecommunications consultant.“People told me they would vote for me and then I saw them at the polling station wearing PLP T-shirts. However, a message was sent to me loud and clear in the last election, which was that people could not see themselves supporting the United Bermuda Party. Now I am running as Tillman Darrell, a young man who grew up in the area and understands better than any candidate running what’s affecting us in the constituency.”Among the election pledges he is making are expanding affordable housing opportunities, getting assistance for low income families who struggle to afford groceries and transportation, and enlisting the help of companies to provide college scholarships for students from low or single-income families.Independent: John HoldippMr Holdipp was off Island and not available to be interviewed for this article.
