P.c. Sean Pyne, 28, asked Police Commissioner Mr. Lennett (Lennie) Edwards to accept his resignation at a meeting this week. Mr. Edwards accepted.

The incident occurred in May, when Miss Jennifer Attride-Stirling, a former friend of P.c. Pyne, was in the Oasis nightclub.

Miss Attride-Stirling reported that Pyne had assaulted her during an argument and the matter was investigated by CID.

During the inquiry and leading up to the court hearing, last week, P.c.Pyne was suspended from duty by the Commissioner.

Sgt. Andrea Brown of the Police Community/Media Relations Department said: "At no time did the Commissioner ask the complainant or the Attorney General for the matter to be dealt with by way of the internal Police disciplinary process.

"Miss Attride-Stirling was, in fact, seen by the Senior Crown Counsel and the case was reviewed. The charge proceeded with in Magistrates' Court was the decision of the Attorney General and his staff.

"On conviction P.c. Pyne asked for and was granted an interview with the Commissioner. He asked to resign from the Police Force and his resignation was accepted.''
