have seen him yesterday touring the Island by taxi.

Okay. He's not the real thing -- his slim six-foot, four-inch frame might be a dead giveaway.

But Elvis impersonator Mr. Ron Hertel is one of just ten full-time Elvises paid big bucks in America to bring the King of Rock 'n' Roll back to life.

On-stage in Las Vegas, he belts out hits such as "Jailhouse Rock'' and "Blue Suede Shoes'' in true Elvis style, bringing back fond memories of the rock 'n' roll era over which the legendary Elvis presided.

Mr. Hertel took time off this week to fly to Bermuda to star in a department store promotion highlighting the rockin' fifties.

Those invited to Trimingham's Spring Private Shopping Night tonight can enjoy an Elvis Look-a-Like contest, photos with the King, a concert -- and a hula-hoop contest.

"Who better to represent the whole hop, retro-era than Elvis?,'' said store promotions coordinator Ms Reggie Fleming.

As there are in America, there will probably be many Bermudians who continue to idolise the King after his death at age 42.

Hertel, who sports a deep southern accent and keeps his hair and celebrated sideburns died jet black, has been impersonating Elvis for six years.

His travels have included Europe and such far-away places as Indonesia where he found a great many excited Elvis fans.

He has not appeared in any Elvis movies, "I don't have the time,'' he said, adding he turned down a part in Honeymoon In Vegas.

His unusual career choice was profiled in a recent segment of the CBS TV news show 48 Hours.

He has also been a guest on numerous talks shows, including CBS This Morning, NBC Today and the Vicki Show, on which he discussed everything from Elvis sightings to Elvis impersonating.

"I've always enjoyed his music,'' said Mr. Hertel, explaining why he decided to take up the job of full-time Elvis.

"I was singer and I did a lot of different voices, but my Elvis impersonation seemed to be my best.'' It's not easy to be a successful Elvis impersonator though, he added. "Some people look like him, but they can't sing,'' he said.

Hertel says he both looks like the young Elvis Presley and can sing.

He is one of only a handful of Elvis impersonators who operate out of Las Vegas.
