Tough haul for Hamilton
prepare for the second leg of their CONCACAF Club Championship second-round tie against Richardson Rockets of Dallas.
International were beaten 4-0 on Saturday on a pitch that captain Derek Bell described as "worse than BAA field'', leaving the prospects of them advancing further after a May 2 match at National Stadium slim indeed.
The Bermuda team fell behind to a penalty after only two minutes and suffered another setback shortly after despite pleases for offside. Centre-half Philip Smith scored into his own net to give the Rockets a 3-0 lead at the half.
"The second half was much better,'' said Bell. "They had one or two fairly good players but they did not play penetrating balls past our defence. "Their front-runners gave us trouble because they were very mobile. Their last goal was a good goal, at that time we were tiring.'' Bell admitted that the task that awaits his team will be formidable. "Trying to get back four goals will be very difficult,'' he said. "We should have had at least two on Saturday. Hammer (Eugene Simmons) had a one-on-one with the 'keeper and put his shot wide, Troy Bassett missed a Walter Musson cross, and Vince Chaves did well to find space in their area and shot wide.'' Bell added that Musson had an exceptional game. "They couldn't control Walter on this high school field. He should do well at National Stadium.'' Hamilton returned to the island with a few injured players -- himself (hamstring pull), Myron Piper (hairline fracture), Chaves (groin strain) and Scott Morton (sprained ankle) -- but all should be fit for the return match.
WALTER MUSSON -- Proved to be a handful for the American side.
