Machete-wielding robbers hit Grotto Bay Hotel

A hotel night auditor suffered a terrifying ordeal after being threatened by a machete-wielding robber.

The raid happened on Tuesday evening when two masked men got away with a stash of cash from the Grotto Bay Beach Hotel in Hamilton Parish.

The two robbers entered the reception area of the hotel at about 9.20 p.m. and approached the night auditor at the front desk.

Then, while one of the robbers threatened the auditor with a machete, his accomplice jumped over the desk and began demanding money from the cash drawer. After the hotel staff member had handed over an undisclosed amount of money and other items, including bus tickets and passes, the two men escaped on a motorcycle.

Grotto Bay clerk escapes injury in robbery The night auditor was not injured in the attack. The hotel foyer was empty at the time and no hotel guests were involved in the incident.

Police have refused to say how much cash was stolen in the raid, although it is understood that it is not a large amount. They have also declined to release descriptions of the two attackers.

Last night hotel management were not available to comment on the incident.

But it is understood Police have praised the night auditor, who has not been named, for his cool conduct.
