Police found cannabis in sailor's luggage
admitted possessing cannabis and drug equipment.
Vaughn Fubler, of Woodlawn Road, was caught with the drugs on December 13 as he prepared to leave for a trip to Santo Domingo, Police prosecutor Insp.
Peter Duffy told the court.
Fubler was confronted by customs officers as he attempted to leave for his trip on a local yacht from Ordnance Island in St. George's, Insp. Duffy said.
He was detained by Marine Police on another matter and they conducted a search of his duffel bag and carry-on luggage.
In the carry-on bag, officers found a packet of tobacco and a package of cigarette papers.
The officers noted that the tobacco packet contained other material and when questioned, Fubler replied: "You know what it is. It's weed and it's mine.'' The plant material was taken and examined by the Government analyst who found it to be 5.2 grams of cannabis.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Fubler $600 for the cannabis and $100 for the cigarette papers.
