Motorists face restrictions during BUEI boat parade

Marine and road traffic will only be allowed in certain areas of Hamilton on Saturday for the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute's annual Boat parade.

Motorised travel will be prohibited on Front Street from Point Pleasant Road (Albouy's Point) to Parliament Street.

And parking will be prohibited on the south side of Front Street, from Parliament Street to the Ferry Terminal as well as no parking at Number Five Car Park.

Access will be provided for public buses stopping west of the Flagpole but horse carriages and taxis will not be allowed to use the waiting areas near Number One Car Park. All temporary measures will be enforced from 4 to 9 p.m.

Food stalls will be set up along Front Street, Albouy's Point, under the Horse Canopy and Taxi Stands from 5 to 9.30 p.m.

The Corporation of Hamilton offers free parking in the City Hall, Par-La-Ville, Elliot Street and Bull's Head Car Parks after 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Only east bound traffic will allowed on Harbour Road, between Manse Road and Lover's Lane, from 6 to 9 p.m. Parking will be allowed on the north side of that section but there will be no parking either side on Manse Road.

The boat parade will proceed from outside the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, eastwards in Hamilton Harbour off of Number Eight dock, turning south for Red Hole then westwards passing between White's Island and just off Musson Point.

The procession will move northwest to a point between Saltus and Spectacle Islands, east along the Pembroke shoreline and back to the RBYC.

There will be a fireworks display at 8 p.m. and the parade is expected to finish at 8.30 p.m.

Bleachers will be erected on the dockside in the Front Street area.

Ministry of Transport will close the section of Hamilton Harbour on a line between Saltus Island and Musson Point to normal maritime traffic Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m.

A five-knot no-wake restriction shall apply to all boats navigating that area.
