Getting the short end of the stick

January 28, 2011Dear Sir,Since being made redundant more than a year ago, I have applied for several jobs in my field of expertise insurance. What I find disturbing is that on at least two occasions I have had interviews with local employment agencies by an individual who (1) was not Bermudian, and (2) had no clue about the Insurance industry or the particular job in question. On both occasions, I was told that I was “over-qualified” (if that’s possible!) and I am certain that my application was not sent on to the employer. (I know for certain that was true in one of the instances).I am a Bermudian who is over 50 years of age and has more than 20 years of insurance experience. Frankly, I am angry over the fact that some individual who is half my age, not Bermudian and knows nothing about the insurance industry, can make a determination to not forward my particulars to a potential employer.I believe that this is an area where Government needs to step in and investigate because the way I see it, in this time of economic uncertainty, Bermudians are getting the short end of the stick!STILL FRUSTRATED!Sandys
