A new programme that will ensure summer time employment in the hospitality industry launched yesterday.The ten-week course has been organised by the Bermuda Hospitality Institute and guarantees 20 lucky students a full-time job this summer upon completion.The American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute's START programme is for students 16 and older.The 180-hour certificate programme teaches students specific skills they will need while working in various departments of a hotel. The course also focuses on professionalism and career exploration.BHI CEO Karla Lacey said: “START is a quality career based educational experience that prepares high school students for the vast opportunities that await them in the hospitality industry whether they choose it as a career or as an employment opportunity while furthering their education.Bermuda College hospitality lecturer Shawn DeShields and Berkeley Institute's director of staff development Joann Adams will teach the course.A maximum of 20 students will be admitted into the 10-week programme, which will hold classes after school and on the weekend.Once students pass the final exam, in June, they will receive a certificate of completion and a job.
