Tractebel steps aside at Morgan's Point site
Because the push is on to start building at the Morgan's Point site, Belgium-based Tractebel SA agreed to let another firm take over making out the cost estimates for the proposed $250-million development, the company said yesterday.
"Right now we are not involved,'' Tractebel Development project finance manager Ronald Litvine said yesterday from his Brussel's office. "Due to different schedules, it's a kind of mutual agreement. We are still working on the possiblities of being involved to a certain extent.'' The pullback was not over an issue of money, he added. "There was nothing to be paid,'' he said.
Tractebel Development is a subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate which is involved in developing large energy projects worldwide but is also skilled in providing a range of technical expertise to projects like Morgan's Harbour.
Mr. Litvine said Tractebel still holds an equity stake in Morgan's Harbour Investment Ltd., the company which won the bid to develop the former ton Naval Annex into an upscale golf, tourist and community resort.
In the tender document, Morgan's Harbour was teamed with Tractebel in the development of the $250-acre site. Tractebel was going to be responsible for construction management.
The Bermuda Land Development Co. is responsible for developing the public land. Spokeman Don Grearson said changes were to be exptected in a project of this size.
"Our responsibility is to make sure that the quality of the team is maintained and the developer is committed to putting up the goods,'' he said.
