Tuesday when they became the fourth team to win back-to-back Martonmere Cup titles.

And true to their recent method of winning, the Blazers did it in spectacular come-from-behind fashion after Vasco had stunned them with a sixth minute opener.

By the time the dust had settled -- three penalties, two reds cards and four goals later -- Boulevard were on top 3-2 to become the first winners of the new Martonmere Cup. After 25 years, the original trophy, which was put up by a former Governor in 1972, has been retired.

Just as important as winning another trophy is the laying to rest of the jinx that Vasco have held over Boulevard in the last two seasons. It has been three years and one week since Boulevard's last victory over Vasco, a 3-2 league result on November 6, 1994. Between that match and Tuesday's final, the teams met 12 times with Vasco winning nine and the other three finishing in draws.

"It's always a real stiff game for us,'' Boulevard captain Leroy Stevens said of those clashes.

"Going down 1-0 early took some momentum from our team but I was just trying to tell everybody to just stay in it and that there was 90 minutes before the game was over. Let's just weather it and see what breaks for us.'' The second half sending off of midfielder Meshach Wade for voicing his displeasure at a Boulevard penalty that was saved, proved to be a turning point for Boulevard.

So, too, was the loss of Sammy Swan who was carried off after a hard foul from Donnie Charles which also earned him a red card from referee Stuart Crockwell ten minutes later.

"I thought the turning point came before the equaliser, when we came together and started to play as one,'' said Stevens, referring to the fightback late in the first half.

"The equaliser gave us a boost to go on and beat them because we haven't beaten them in a long time. It's a great feeling and I can't explain it in words.'' That equaliser was scored by veteran midfielder Andrew Bascome from the penalty spot. His second goal just four minutes into extra time that enabled Boulevard to take the lead for the first time.

"I haven't taken a penalty since 1980-something and I was a little nervous but I knew we needed to score,'' said Bascome who was substituted soon after his second goal because of persistent cramp in his legs.

"From being a senior player in the team I felt it was my responsibiilty to step up and take the penalty.

"You have to give credit to Vasco because they came out with a plan and shut our midfield down and made us play a lot of balls across the back.'' The draw for the first round of the FA Cup will be made today at the BFA office. This is the round where the First Division teams go into the draw and they will be joined by six Second Division teams -- Paget, Prospect, Wolves, St. David's, Hamilton Parish and St. George's.
