The man said he woke up at 3.30 a.m. in his Paget hotel room to find a woman entering it through the insecure patio door.

She claimed to be a chambermaid and brought fresh towels to the room, he continued.

She left the room, then returned and said she needed to record his name. She left again after retrieving a pen from the man's pants pocket, he said.

Moments later the man realised his wallet, containing cash and credit cards, was missing from his pants.

The woman was seen being driven away in a white motor car a short time later.

She is described as being a slim and light brown skinned with dark hair and about five feet five inches tall.
