COMET RACE BROUGHT FORWARD SLG Comet race brought forward The West End Sailboat Club's annual long distance comet race is breaking from tradition this year. Traditionally scheduled for the Queens Birthday holiday which is celebrated on a Monday (this year Monday, June 12), the popular race has been brought forward to Sunday, June 11 according to club executive Gladwin Lambert.

The switch has been made so as not to clash with another sailing event that same day, namely the tall ships parade.

"In order to avoid a clash with the parade of the tall ships we've decided to hold the race on the Sunday, we felt it was the appropriate step to escape any confusion,'' said Lambert.

This year the race will start in St. George's Harbour and finish at the West End Sailboat Club in Dockyard, with defending champion Stevie Dickinson going for a record 12th win. He tied Alton Millett's record last year.
