Vallis yesterday turned his attention to the United States.

And Vallis ended up beating a pair of formidable opponents in claiming his first American victory at the Caves Valley Golf Club Championship.

An international member at the prestigious Tom Fazzio-designed course just outside Baltimore, Vallis birdied the 16th hole to defeat two-time champion Joel Kaye 3-2 in the match-play final.

In the semi-finals, Vallis defeated defending Caves Valley champion and former Walker Cup player Doug Ballenger in a sudden-death play-off.

Vallis, who won his second straight Bermuda stroke-play title in June, will be representing the Island at the World Amateur Championships.
