In a separate incident, a taxi driver was stabbed in his shoulder after an altercation involving an unpaid fare early yesterday morning.

Police were called to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where the victim told them he had been stabbed by a man whom he had driven from Harrington Sound Road in Smith's Parish to Devonshire.

The driver said the young man asked for a ride to Stadium Lane in Devonshire but as the driver approached the bridge area on Palmetto Road, he claimed the young man attempted to jump out.

The driver then stopped the taxi and confronted him, demanding his fare.

He alleged the young man started threatening him, and on turning to defend himself, he said his attacker pulled out an object and stabbed him in his upper left shoulder.

The assailant escaped by running up the bridge's steps and toward Friswell's Hill, Pembroke.

The suspect is described as dark-brown skinned, of slim build, between 130 and 135 pounds, approximately five-feet four-inches tall, around 22-years-old with small facial features, short hair and a long plait.

He was wearing blue jeans and a black three-quarter length jacket at the time of the alleged incident.

Anyone with further information or who may have witnessed the attack is asked to contact either the Hamilton Police Station on 295-0011, the St. George's Police Station on 297-1122, the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010 or the Crime Stoppers Hotline on 1-800-623-8477.
