Football season's extension won't hit us -- James

won't have a major impact on the start of the cricket season, which will still begin sometime in May.

The Bermuda Cricket Board of Control, whose offices are adjacent to the Bermuda Football Association's in Hamilton, have a good working relationship with football's governing body and are prepared to be flexible to accommodate their needs.

"We're here working together and we have to work together,'' said BCBC president El James yesterday.

"We have to recognise their needs and they have to recognise ours. We are just finalising the season now.

"With them finishing their season on April 30 we'll just adjust our schedule accordingly.'' The BFA issued a revised schedule this week for the rest of the season, which has seen the April Friendship and FA Cup finals pushed back two weeks.

Cricket has started in May the last couple of years and, unlike their football counterparts, they are not able to jump right into their season.

"The only thing we need to do now is give the field operators enough time to get the pitches ready, so we'll adjust the start of our season to give them ample time,'' said the president.

Football league matches will end on April 9 which will give those grounds that cater to cricket about a month to get ready. And depending on the success of the national team in the World Cup qualifying campaign, cricket could be interrupted during the summer for home matches.

The BCBC are also planning some incoming and outgoing tours during the summer, with Eton College from England due to make a visit along with the Cayman Islands under-15 team. The senior national team are due to depart in August for a regional tournament overseas, prior to Red Stripe matches at the end of the season.

"We have approximate dates, but by the time the AGM comes in March all of that will be firmed up,'' said James.

No problem: Cricket will be accommodating to the World Cup qualifiers says El James.
