Staff to lose jobs after sale of book store

Employees at Bermuda Book Store Ltd. will be out of a job after this weekend,The Royal Gazette learned yesterday.

The Bermuda Book Store, one of Bermuda's oldest bookstores, has been sold to Washington Mall Magazines for an undisclosed sum. It is understood that the owner Mr. Robert Zuill had tried to ensure his experienced staff were kept on, but new owners Washington Mall Magazines are bringing their own employees.

Staff heard that they were losing their jobs last week and are now scrambling about to get new employment.

When the Bermuda Book Store Ltd. had merged with Baxter's Book Shop in 1982 the staff were kept on. Mr. Zuill could not be reached last night for comment. It is unsure whether the store will have a name change or will be closed for renovations.
