The stranger sexually assaulted a seven-year old when he entered the child's bedroom in Warwick early yesterday.

Police said a mother of two was woken by her children's calls from their bedroom around 2.30 a.m.

The seven-year old claimed a man had entered the room, sexually assaulted both children and escaped through the window.

Police could not confirm both youngsters were assaulted.

Officers attended the Cobbs Hill residence and the children were taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital to be examined.

But upon searching the area, Police were unable to find the attacker who was described as five feet six inches tall, slim with dark brown skin.

He was wearing a red and orange T-shirt, baggy jean shorts and a black scarf over his face, exposing only his eyes, mouth and nose. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police Community and Juvenile Services Department on 295-0011. Inquiries are continuing.
