Wasps absorbed unrelenting pressure from their opponents before breaking away to clinch the game.
Playing without the services of regulars Stanley Lee and Donny Madeiros Wasps were pinned in their half for long periods. But the Wasps defence, anchored well by goalkeeper Kevin Hill, held firm.
Wasps took the lead during a counter attack that was started by Simon Farrington and finished by his brother Paul.
The second game saw Chameleons hammer Upstarts 9-2 with Stevie Moreton and Billy Spencer scoring hat-tricks. Moreton had one penalty and Spencer two.
Also among the goal scorers were Jonathan Dodd, Peter Norris and Mark Finnigan.
David Dunwoody and Jay Ryan replied for Upstarts.
