Southampton man $300 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Curtis Gregory Swan of Westdale Lane pleaded guilty to obstructing a Police officer who was attempting to search him under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Sgt. Earl Kirby, prosecuting, said that on the evening of September 4 officers followed a motorcycle carrying Swan and a companion along Happy Valley Road in Pembroke. Realising they were being followed, the pair turned onto Shelton Road and then a side street.

Switching off the cycle's lights, they pulled into a private driveway where Police apprehended them.

When asked to remove his sneakers, Swan took off his left one and retrieved an object which he put in his mouth.

Officers struggled with him in an attempt to retrieve the object, but Swan swallowed it.

When asked what he had ingested, Swan told Police it was "a twist of weed''.
