Brechman's screen saver
International Ltd could have the solution everyone has been looking for -- a safer screen.
With summer already here, many families leave their homes vulnerable to thieves by leaving windows and doors open.
Now Barry Brechman, president of Innovative Imports based in Flatts Village believes he has the answer.
Mr. Brechman who has lived on the Island for eight years, has spent most of that time working in the security business.
He has found an aluminium "super screen'', which has interlocking devices inside it. When closed they fasten and lock in a number of places, making it almost impossible for burglars to break in.
One of the main reasons Mr. Brechman introduced the product to the Island was because he noticed that many guest house owners and hotels reported that theft occurs mainly through screen doors.
He said. "This is a solution to one of the major problems tourists are having.'' He added. "You can keep the doors open as long as they lock the super screen.'' Manufactured in the US, the screens are brought to the Island where they are assembled. Innovative Imports has an agreement with the US manufacturer and patent holder of the screen.
Mr. Brechman said: "We're ultimately looking to have them manufactured here.
But that's in the future.'' One of the best features about these screens is the fact that you don't have to invest in an entirely new door. The screens can fit in almost every model of sliding door in Bermuda.
So far sales have been good and based mainly on word of mouth.
Mr. Brechman claims that one hotel on the Island that uses his screens has noticed a considerable decrease in break-ins.
