Goater targets more goals
Manchester City's strikeforce before the season ends.
Boss Joe Royle has brought in numerous strikers over the months, with differing levels of success, as he tried to address his side's lack of goals.
Former World Footballer of the Year, George Weah came and went, millions were spent on Paulo Wanchope but he failed to light up Maine Road and was placed on the transfer list and Darren Huckerby has yet to realise his potential.
Royle this week drafted in Egil Ostentad from Blackburn on loan.
Amid all the comings and goings the only real constant in the City frontline has been the Bermudian.
Goater said: "I feel competition is good for everyone and I don't begrudge anyone coming in. What it says is if you are going to hold on to your shirt then you have to improve your game.
"I know the one thing which will improve my game is goals. They bring confidence to me and the team, so I know that is what I have to do.'' Injury has curtailed Goater's performances in the top flight and his goals haven't flowed freely as a result.
"Clean sheets will earn us points and goals will win the matches. We all know the situation we are in and we want to score goals,'' he said.
"I go into the games to do well, but at this club the expectations are high.
We still feel that there are a few more chapters to be written about us as a front force.
"The last couple of games we have started to get results but haven't started to fire on all cylinders. There are still some goals to come from us.'' In 16 starts Goater has scored five goals but he believes he knows how to start hitting the back of the net with more regularity.
"I am disappointed that I haven't had a consistent run of opportunities. I feel if I can get three or four chances in a game then I will score,'' he said.
"That is the one thing I have set my sights on for the rest of the season.''
