Shed goes up in flames
Broadway last night.
The shed, in an overgrown yard on the Lane House property, went up in flames at about 8.30 p.m.
But firemen arrived in time to put out the blaze before it was completely destroyed.
They also prevented the fire from spreading to the neighbouring Marine and Ports administration building, which could have been disastrous.
Harbourmaster Mr. Ian Clark, on the scene last night, expressed concern that the flames could have also spread to the Government ferries berthed in the waters behind the building.
Mr. Anthony Smith, whose father owns the property, said the house was unoccupied and in the process of being renovated.
"There are no paying tenants, he said adding, "but rummies are there all the time.'' But a Fire Service spokesman said the cause had not yet been determined.
