When the port opened in 1986 the Somers Isles was the first ship to use it and since then she has become their most consistent customer with the strongest commitment to the port and its community.

Since that first visit she has made over 300 round trip voyages between Hamilton and Fernandina, Florida and has carried over 25,000 loaded containers and 24,000 tons of break bulk cargo.

Bermuda's Somers Isles Shipping Limited was recognised in a recent edition of Nassau Terminals Today as the port's "star customer'' which had "the vision and imagination to give the Port of Fernandina a chance to succeed''.

The company signed a three year agreement with the port before it was built and established North Florida Shipping.
