Ex-runner Burgess takes on sport post
at the Department of Tourism on a temporary basis from new Governor aide-de-camp, Captain Wayne Smith.
Burgess has temporarily vacated his post as Technical Assistant for Botany at the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and the secondment will be for a two-year period while Smith serves as Governor Thorold Masefield's aide.
The appointment took effect on Tuesday and already Burgess has begun the task of carrying out the requirements of the post.
"The staff assisting me have been very, very helpful,'' said Burgess of his first two days in the post.
The Bermuda 800 metres record holder, who also still holds three track records at the University of Georgia from the 1980s, is known more these days as a running coach and personal trainer. He had also done sports broadcasting with local station VSB as well as working for foreign stations.
"It's good to be back involved in the sports world, both locally and overseas,'' said Burgess.
"I'll be handling any of the major sporting events that Tourism gets involved in.'' TOURISM TOU
