Several Police squad cars sped to Court Street and took two men into custody after a small disturbance boiled over as the two leaders were leaving Alaska Hall, headquarters of the Progressive Labour Party Government.

Premier Smith and Prime Minister Patterson were getting into their cars to be driven away when the incident occurred.

Two men were seen arguing and then wrestling in the street, just feet away from the officials.

Up to ten officers arrived on the scene after it is understood they feared the official party was caught up in the fracas.

The official delegation had driven off as officers arrived.
