Quiet end to soccer season
weekend's First and Second Division fixtures will have little importance as the local soccer league season officially ends tomorrow.
All that remains to be settled in the league is the final Martonmere Cup spot for next season. Champions Devonshire Colts, Vasco, Boulevard, North Village and Dandy Town are already assured of playing in the first major tournament of the new season and will be joined by either Southampton Rangers or Devonshire Cougars.
Rangers, who lead Cougars by two points, would appear to have the edge. While they are away to North Village -- albeit no easy match -- Cougars close out their season away to Colts at BAA Field.
While some teams will probably only be going through the motions, some still have something to play for as the two April finals are still to be played.
Village and Town are in next weekend's Friendship Trophy final while Boulevard take on Second Division side Wolves in the FA Cup final the following Sunday.
Vasco, who are certain to finish in second place, entertain third-placed Boulevard at PHC Stadium. If Vasco's approach to last Sunday's match against PHC is any indication, Boulevard won't be worked too hard.
St. George's will get one final chance to pick up their first win of the season when they host Dandy Town at Wellington Oval. However, Town are preparing for the Friendship final the following weekend so they won't be in a generous mood.
St. David's, joining St. George's in the Second Division next season, finish their campaign at home to PHC.
In the Second Division, champions Hotels are away to Hotels at BAA Field, while Wolves meet Social Club at PHC Stadium. In other matches Hamilton Parish take on Paget at Wellington Oval and Somerset Eagles meet Prospect at White Hill field.
